When taxpayers call federal agencies like the VA or Social Security, they shouldn't be left on hold for endless amounts of time praying someone picks up

This week I was excited to announce my office's nominations for the U.S. Service Academies from the 41st Congressional District. Answering the call to serve our nation is a truly honorable act. These students are extraordinary representatives of our region and, if accepted, will undoubtedly excel at our Service Academies.

My Academy Nominations Selection Committee recently evaluated each candidate from the 41st Congressional District seeking a nomination to the Service Academies. The Academies will now evaluate the nominees based on their academic, athletic, and physical qualifications and extend an appointment to the best qualified students that my office has nominated.

The latest Point in Time Count conducted by HUD shows that the total number of homeless across the country has increased by 12 percent from last year. The epidemic of homelessness across the country, and particularly in California, demands that we take a different approach from a policy of benign neglect that has allowed one in four homeless people to die of an overdose. That is why I recently introduced the Treatment and Homelessness Housing Integration Act.

This week marked the four-month anniversary of the horrific Oct. 7th terrorist attack. I spoke on the House floor in support of the Israel Security Supplemental Appropriations Act. The bill provides funding for U.S. troops in the region as well as for Israel, including funding for the Iron Dome system that protects Israeli civilians. The Israelis are in the midst of a struggle for their survival and a fight to secure peace by rooting out those responsible for the October 7th atrocities. Our troops throughout the Middle East are under regular attack from Iranian-backed terror groups, which have resulted in the deaths of five American heroes. Hamas continues to hold innocent people hostage, including eight Americans.

The Israel Security Supplemental Appropriations Act failed to pass the House of Representatives (250 to 180) despite receiving the support of a bipartisan majority because the bill was considered under a process known as suspension of the rules, which requires approval by at least two-thirds of voting members. While I’m disappointed by my colleagues who voted against aid for our troops and our allies in Israel, I will not abandon these causes which are vital to America’s national security interests. I am hopeful the House will once again consider this critical aid in the very near future.
