GLAAD amplifies messages from local advocates
Recently, GLAAD, equality groups, and health advocates in Ohio responded to news that the Ohio Senate pushed through HB 68, a bill that bans essential health care for transgender youth and prohibits transgender girls and women from school sports in grades K-12. Using a mobile billboard to maximize impact, messages were shared with lawmakers, staff, voters, and reporters outside the statehouse in Columbus. GLAAD also partnered with Equality Ohio to provide reporters with a fact sheet covering the nuances of the bill, leading to a 300% increase in engagement on the organization's social media. As GLAAD continues to fight for accessible healthcare for all LGBTQ people, it is critical that lawmakers and elected officials leave medical decisions to remain between doctors and patients.
