A staggering contrast emerged recently which says much about our politics in the world today.
A Special Counsel investigation into Joe Biden's illegal handling of classified records, opted not to prosecute the President for the crimes he obviously committed, in part, because;
We have also considered that, at trial, Mr. Eiden would likely present himself to a jury, as he did during our interview of him, as a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.
OK. Fine. Joe Biden is an elderly man with a poor memory, and this is basically a state of mental incompetence. Hardly a shock to anyone who pays attention to the news. Whether or not that means he should be able to get away with crimes on account of this is more questionable, but the statement holds plenty of water.
Biden then held a press conference to deny his crimes and insist he isn't senile.
Then, take a look at the interview between Tucker Carlson and Vladimir Putin.
The media is, predictably, up in arms about this. They are losing their collective minds calling Carlson a Putin Puppet and saying that Carlson did not push back on Putin hard enough, as if this were the job of journalists, to antagonize people. You might get that impression watching Jim Acosta during the Trump administration, but it is actually not the reason that we have reporters.
The reason reporters get the very special access they typically do is so they can inform the public, and the public can then go on to make wiser decisions when it comes time to elect public officials. It hasn't quite worked out that way, but we all have a fairly strong interest in seeing that happen.
So, when a politician is dodging questions or failing to provide useful information, we ought certainly hope that reporters push them in the direction of honest disclosures.
Carlson himself began the video he released with something of a disclaimer, stating that he allowed Putin to go on about the history of Ukraine for some time. He notes then that he several times interrupted Putin to try and ask what about the current moment justifies the conflict.
When watching the interview, it becomes clear that Carlson is doing this because he anticipates the criticism. Putin does not stop what he is doing when Carlson tries to return him to the present day, and Carlson makes no effort to force the issue. Carlson was just interjecting because he anticipated what his colleagues would say, but understood that this lengthy description was pertinent.
Putin understands that few comprehend the history involved. He further understands further that Tucker Carlson is among the few who are capable of understanding it, because he has actually studied Russian history.
And so Putin goes on with a fairly detailed history of the land now called Ukraine spanning more than a thousand years.
The media lap dogs of the Democrat Party should be grateful that Tucker was not more forceful with Putin. It would only have further demonstrated his prowess. Putin actually understands what is going on and can recite complex matters from memory. Answering other questions during the interview, he demonstrated also his capacity to think on the spot. One can discern this even with the burden of an interpreter. One imagines a native Russian speaker who also understands English, would look at the two men speaking and understand all the more fully that these were two extraordinary minds meeting.
An exchange like that could not take place in America today. Our politics are so low that they have been reduced to slogans, talking points, and soundbites. Donald Trump could not do what Vladimir Putin did in that interview, and I am sincerely of the view that he has a better grasp of world affairs than any president in recent memory.
Comparing that interview to President Biden denying his crimes and trying in vain to defend his mental competence is a staggering contrast.
