The primary season is well underway, but it seems as if no one is happy with the outcomes—or even the primary process itself.
Our elections are supposed to be an exercise in self-determination. We are a people who have the freedom to elect our own leaders, and determine our own futures. There's nothing more central to the American identity than that. And yet, the legacy parties have spent the past decades trying to strip that power away from us.
Look to New Hampshire, where the Democratic Party decided not to recognize the results of the primary. In an effort to shift the schedule, the Party stripped New Hampshire of its state-mandated "first in the nation" status. Instead of working towards a solution, the DNC decided to disenfranchise an entire state. And, to highlight the ridiculousness of it all, stopped Joe Biden from adding his name to the ballot, which led him to engage in a write-in campaign to win it anyway. Veep wasn't even this ridiculous.
Second, in Nevada, the Republican Party ended up holding both a primary and a caucus. Each even had its own set of candidates. Trump beat Ryan Binkley (we're politicos, and we don't even know who that is) in the caucus, while Nikki Haley lost to "None of these candidates" in the primary. More people showed up for the primary than the caucus. None of it made any sense.
Add to this closed party primaries that shut out independent and unaffiliated voters, and gerrymandering that prevents over 90% of congressional seats from being competitive, and you get a country that is no longer responsive to its citizens.
Across America, the legacy parties keep erecting walls around our democracy to keep the rest of us out. They know that they're the minority, and that without these walls, we will retake our country. The Forward Party is here to organize this exhausted majority and return the power of our government to we, the people, where it belongs.

Aprime example of working bottom up instead of top down is the Forward Party of Colorado. Just yesterday, they achieved party status in their state, petitioning their way to recognition as just the second party to do so since the ‘90s, proving that there is a grassroots movement building in the Centennial State. Colorado joins Utah as the second state in as many months to qualify for party status under the Forward banner. Here’s to you, Colorado!

In late November, the Utah Forward party received state recognition as the eighth registered party in the state. Utah Forward Party leadership told reporters that they’re striving to change politics in the state because there are “a lot of people that are frustrated with the way the system works right now.”
