Rep. Troy E. Nehls Questions the FAA Administrator Greetings! I wanted to take a moment to share with you a recap on what happened last week in Texas' 22nd District and the United States House of Representatives. This Week in Washington Rep. Nehls Votes 'YES' to Impeach DHS Secretary Mayorkas This week, the House held a vote to impeach U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. Since Secretary Mayorkas has been in charge, over 8.3 million illegal aliens have crossed our nation’s borders, along with 1.7 million known gotaways detected by Border Patrol Agents. Millions of inadmissible illegal aliens have been released into communities across the nation, wreaking havoc and utter chaos. Due to the open-border policies of this administration, fentanyl is flowing across our southern border from Mexico and has become the leading cause of death for people 18-45 years old. This week, the House held a vote on articles of impeachment against Secretary Mayorkas for his willful and systemic refusal to comply with the law and for breaching public trust. The Framers of the United States Constitution restricted impeachment to treason, bribery, and other high Crimes and Misdemeanors. This standard applied to behavior found damaging to the state, including significant abuses of a government office or power, neglect of duty, and betrayals of trust, which I believe Secretary Mayorkas has exhibited. I voted 'YES' to impeach Secretary Mayorkas and will again. Unfortunately, the impeachment resolution failed to pass the House by a vote of 214-216. Rest assured; the fight isn’t over. Secretary Mayorkas will be held accountable. Rep. Troy E. Nehls Meets with the American Trucking Association The American Trucking Association (ATA) stopped by my Washington, D.C. office this week. I had a great conversation with constituents in the trucking industry. There are 797,460 trucking industry jobs in the great State of Texas, contributing $3.3 billion in federal and state roadway taxes. Truckers are this nation's backbone. Thank you for coming by! Rep. Troy E. Nehls Questions the FAA Administrator On July 20, 2023, my legislation, the Let Experienced Pilots Fly Act, passed the United States House of Representatives in the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Reauthorization. This legislation would allow part 121 commercial pilots to continue flying until they reach the age of 67 while still adhering to the same rigorous health and safety standards. Specifically, this bill would address our nation’s crippling pilot shortage. This week, the House Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Aviation held a hearing titled, "The State of American Aviation and the Federal Aviation Administration," with FAA Administrator Michael Whitaker. During the hearing, I was able to question Administrator Whitaker about a letter the FAA recently sent to my colleagues in the Senate regarding their opposition to raising the retirement age for part 121 commercial pilots from 65 to 67. Watch my remarks from the hearing HERE. Rep. Troy E. Nehls Meets with Wharton Co. Junior College I had the pleasure to meet with Wharton County Junior College in my Washington, D.C. office this week. Wharton County Junior College serves 7,500 students across four campuses in Wharton, Richmond, Sugar Land, and Bay City, Texas. Thank you for stopping by. I am honored to represent you in Congress! Rep. Troy E. Nehls Meets with US Rice Producers Association This week, I had the opportunity to meet with the US Rice Producers Association (USRPA), along with some of our very own TX-22 rice producers. We discussed the Farm Bill, trade and labor issues, and my amendment to the FAA reauthorization, which will expedite the approval process for producers who aerially apply pesticides with new drone technology. Our nation's farmers work 24/7, 365 days a year to feed, fuel, and clothe the world. Thank you for coming by my office!
