In this episode of The Cost of the Progressives, we highlight the story of Baby Alfie, a child who was denied medical care by Britain's NHS socialized medical system. This case captured worldwide attention in 2018. While the NHS denied Alfie medical treatment his family received special dispensation from several other countries so they could relocate and get Alfie life-saving treatment.
This horrific story is about more than Baby Alfie, it is about individual rights versus the edicts of the state. The British state left Alfie's fate in the hands of its government experts who disregarded all parental rights and cost Alfie his life in the end. This tragic tale is a chilling reminder of the lengths the state will go to maintain its control over its citizens.
The newest episode of The Cost of the Progressives focuses on the tragedy of the state's handling of covid-19 and its impact on the next generation. Early into the outbreak, it became clear that the largest risk factor from covid was age, yet that did not stop the government's "experts" from pushing draconian lockdowns on the population. Studies have since demonstrated the damage done to children, whose development was hindered by constant masking and a culture of fear.
The progressive ideology elevates the dictates of its "experts" and the false promise of collective security at the expense of individual liberty. The response to covid is a stark reminder of the costs of giving the state such power and its consequences for the most vulnerable in society.
