Friend,

President Biden is gaslighting the American people on the border crisis. The crisis at our Southern Border is all about cause and effect.

The cause: President Biden refusing to enforce our immigration laws. The effect: Over 6.7 million illegal immigrant encounters since President Biden took office, at least 1.7 million “gotaways,” and a flood of deadly drugs pouting into communities across the country, including in Iowa.

On day one of his Administration, he began systematically and unilaterally unraveling policies that secured our border and deterred illegal immigration through executive action. He has taken over 60 executive actions to halt wall constructions, limit deportations, dismantle Remain in Mexico, and expand catch and release.

President Biden caused this crisis, and he has the power to fix it. Last week, I led over 60 of my colleagues in a letter to the President demanding he do just that – enforce the immigration laws on the books and reverse executive actions that deliberately incentivize illegal immigration and make us all less safe.

I will continue holding President Biden accountable for the crisis at the Southern Border and working to keep our country safe amid this growing security crisis.

Best,

Telephone Town Hall

Thank you to everyone who took time out of their evening on Monday to join my telephone town hall. I provided an update on efforts to secure the border, support our veterans, and work across the aisle to curb the opioid epidemic. During the call, I asked listeners to share their top policy priority. Check out the results below!

What is your top policy priority?

Securing the Border – 70%

Fighting Inflation – 17%

Standing with Israel – 7%

Lowering energy costs – 6%

Iowa Colleges and University Presidents

It was great to meet with several presidents from Iowa colleges and universities this week! We discussed how the Administration’s delayed rollout of FAFSA will negatively impact students seeking financial aid and the importance of expanding access to Pell Grants.

President Mark Nook, UNI

It was great to catch up with University of Northern Iowa President Mark Nook to hear about all that is in store for the Panthers this year!

USO Open House

with Miss America, Madison Marsh

The USO helps our troops stay connected with friends and family while serving overseas. It was great to meet their team this week and hear from the first-ever active-duty officer to be crowned Miss America, Madison Marsh! Thank you for your service!

Jana Baraks, Iowa’s Local Taxpayer Advocate

My team and I constantly help Iowans trying to navigate problems with the IRS. With tax season underway, I met with Jana Baraks from the Taxpayer Advocate Service. Jana and her team are committed to making sure every taxpayer receives timely responses and is treated fairly. If you or someone you know is having trouble with the IRS, please reach out to my team here – we may be able to help!

Secretary of State Paul Pate

In Iowa, it’s easy to vote and hard to cheat! I enjoyed catching up with Secretary of State Paul Pate about Iowa’s common sense voter laws. Every state should follow Iowa’s example!

Community Colleges for Iowa

A four-year degree is not the only path to success. It was great to meet with Community Colleges for Iowa to discuss my PELL Act, legislation that expands access to skills-based learning and empowers Iowa students to graduate with in-demand skills and opportunities in their chosen field!
