John,
These are trying times. In this national emergency, healthcare workers, delivery drivers, grocers, and first responders are all on the front lines working to fight coronavirus and keep our society moving.
Now is the time for all of us to come together.
I wanted to share some important resources with you and urge you to help with this fight if you can. This list is not exhaustive and we’ll share more in the future, but I wanted to share a few ideas.
Give blood if you can
DONATE BLOOD: [link removed]
Across the United States, the Red Cross is responsible for providing roughly 40% of the nation’s blood reserves. They have seen a significant downturn in blood donations and have been forced to cancel most blood drives in the wake of coronavirus. You can schedule an appointment to donate with the Red Cross.
Donate to a food bank, here in Central Virginia or Nationally

Across Virginia and the nation, schools are closed for weeks. In Virginia, the governor just announced they would be closed for the remainder of the school year. Many children rely on schools for meals, so in these turbulent times, the need for food at these banks is already growing. Donations to food banks go a long way to feeding hungry families.
Connect with your family and your community
If you’re not living under a shelter in place order and you can safely do so without risk to your personal health, consider helping to get groceries and/or prescriptions for your relatives and neighbors who are at higher risk.
Check-in with your community! Call your older relatives, your homebound neighbors, your parents and others who are at risk and in isolation. If you can find a way to Facetime, Google Hangout, or use other modern tools for face-to-face contact, try that, too. Our team does a video-call each morning and seeing everyone’s faces really does make a difference.
John, while these are challenging times, I know we’ll get through them by working together.
Thank you for all you do and for being a part of our community,
Bettina
