Despite a historic referendum in August 2023, in which Ecuadorians overwhelmingly voted to keep over 700 million barrels of crude oil permanently in the ground underneath Yasuní National Park, the government of Ecuador has plans to ignore the popular vote and continue drilling for oil in one of the most biodiverse places on the planet, home to Indigenous peoples living in voluntary isolation.
Take action now to protect Yasuní National Park and Indigenous rights! Join us in demanding that President Noboa respect democracy and immediately end oil drilling in Yasuní.
Ecuador's vote wasn't close. An overwhelming 60% chose to protect Yasuní after fighting for a decade to get the referendum on the ballot. It was a major victory for Indigenous peoples, biodiversity, and the climate in a country that is the largest producer of Amazon crude and has seen decades of contamination and rights abuses at the hands of the oil industry.
Send a message to President Noboa of Ecuador urging him to protect Yasuní and respect the rights of Indigenous peoples!
