February marks Black History Month, an important time for us to reflect on the rich history and extensive contributions made by Black Americans.
However, it is also an important time to recognize that the fight for racial justice is far from over. With Black communities across the country facing the ongoing consequences of disenfranchisement, mass incarceration, and healthcare inequities, it’s clear that we still have work to do.
Despite the efforts of extremist Republicans across the country, we know that Black history is American history. It belongs in our schools and it belongs in our history books. There is no way to study the history of our nation without recognizing the contributions of Black Americans.
