Here are some pretty awesome things our alumni have done recently:

• Arizona Senator Juan Méndez supported the proposal of the Arizona Thriving Families Act, a series of bills that would guarantee better access to paid medical and family leave for workers.
• San Bernardino Mayor Helen Tran celebrated a $35 million grant that is expected to bring housing and services under one roof to help the city's homeless population. The Homekey grant is funded by the American Rescue Plan, which was passed by Congress in 2021.
• Colorado Senator Julie Gonzales and State Representative Javier Mabrey proposed a housing bill where a cause is required for the eviction of a residential tenant, otherwise known as a “for cause” or “just cause” bill. If passed, it would prevent landlords from evicting tenants who have not broken any part of the lease contract.
• Michigan State Representative Alabas Farhat introduced House Resolution 182 condemning the Wall Street Journal in response to its bigoted opinion piece about Dearborn. By perpetuating anti-Arab and Islamophobic rhetoric, the article not only fosters division but also puts Dearborn’s Arab American community at risk of violence and prejudice.
• Former U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Senior Policy Adviser Cindy Nava has announced that she will run for state senate in New Mexico. A former DACA recipient, Cindy’s journey from grassroots organizing and working without pay in the New Mexico Legislature to advocating at the state and national level is a testament to her resilience and drive! 
• New York City Councilmembers Alexa Avilés, Shahana K. Hanif, Crystal Hudson, Pierina Ana Sanchez, Amanda Farías, Julie Won, and Shekar Krishnan sponsored two key pieces of legislation under the How Many Stop Acts. These transparency measures aim to hold law enforcement accountable for when, why, and who they pull over.
