I know this is a tough time for many families. Many of you are scared not only for your health but about your jobs. My thoughts are with everyone impacted by the COVID-19 crisis and all those who are fearful during this time of uncertainty. We must reach out to our families and friends and stay connected, even as we remain physically separate.

It is also clear now more than ever why we need dedicated public servants in every level of government. As the DC government works to address the COVID-19 crisis, Ward 2 does not have a representative on the Council to advocate for Ward 2 budget priorities. Last week, I officially endorsed Brooke Pinto for the Ward 2 seat of the DC Council. Today, I’m going to tell you why I am supporting Brooke and ask you to join me in supporting her campaign.

I have had the pleasure of working closely with Brooke for the past few years. Since graduating from Georgetown Law School, Brooke has been an indispensable member of the Office of the Attorney General. We recruited Brooke to join our Ruff Fellowship program where she worked as a lawyer in our Tax and Finance Section. Her work instantly impressed me and I hand-picked her to serve as the Assistant Attorney General for Policy and Legislative Affairs. I directly supervised her work, and she quickly mastered the legislative process. Brooke’s work covered many issues, including campaign finance reform, civil rights, and wage theft protection for workers.

However, it was not just Brooke’s work that impressed me. Her character and integrity are unimpeachable, which will be a welcome breath of fresh air for Ward 2. Brooke is a prodigious worker and possesses the rare talent of listening, which will allow her to understand and balance competing interests. She has consistently demonstrated her unwavering work ethic and ability to continuously follow through to ensure a problem gets solved. Ward 2 needs an action-oriented and energetic advocate to get the community back on track, and I am confident that Brooke is the best and the most qualified candidate for the job.

I know at this time of crisis the last thing some of you may be thinking about is politics. And I completely understand that. However, we will need the best team in place in our city government to deal with the repercussions of this crisis. Brooke’s experience as a tax attorney, work in legislative affairs, and engagement in the community are sorely needed to effectively work with the rest of the city as we try to recover from this crisis.

So, I’m asking you directly today for two things.
1) Please donate today and help Brooke restore faith in our government. Donate here: secure.actblue.com/donate/brooke-pinto-for-ward-2
2) For those of you residing in Ward 2, please vote for Brooke in the June 2 Democratic Primary and the June 16 Ward 2 Special Election. I wouldn’t ask you for this right now if I did not think it was so important. Thank you for your continued support. Stay healthy and safe,
Attorney General Karl A. Racine
