Hi John, I'm Sen. Molly Donahue, and I represent the 37th State Senate District in Iowa (Linn County).
Last week, Republican Gov. Reynolds proposed changes that would further overhaul our state's area education agencies (AEA's).
Having spent nearly 3 decades working as a teacher at Washington High School, I understand firsthand how legislative decisions like these only hurt AEAs that provide essential support to our students.
John, Gov. Reynolds is blatantly ignoring our concerns.
Gov. Reynold's proposed changes not only further cut funding to our AEAs, but place even more power into the hands of the Department of Education in Des Moines.
Services and resources provided by AEAs are essential to ensuring children with special needs receive the same quality education and feel supported in their studies.
Many Iowans' have already expressed their concerns with the existing amendment and Gov. Reynold's proposed changes do NOTHING to address those concerns.
Iowa Senate Dems are committed to safeguarding education for all children.
