John,
Ten years ago this week, the Affordable Care Act was signed into law. It vastly expanded affordable access to healthcare for millions, protected Americans with pre-existing conditions from being denied coverage, and allowed young people to be covered under their parents' plans until age 26. But, in the ensuing decade, Republicans like David Schweikert have tried relentlessly to overturn it.
Schweikert has voted dozens of times to repeal the ACA, with no plan for a replacement. He voted for the 2017 tax bill, which opened the door for yet another legal challenge to the ACA -- a challenge that the current administration just recommitted to over the weekend, pledging to "terminate" the ACA.
I am running for Congress to protect and expand healthcare coverage. As a former ER physician, I've seen firsthand the pain of families who struggle to afford the medical care they need. The idea that you would make it harder for your fellow Americans to seek necessary medical care, rather than easier, is incomprehensible. We need to build on what's proven effective in the ACA to expand affordable coverage even further -- not undo it as David Schweikert would.
I refuse to let politicians like Schweikert, who are working for their corporate donors rather than for their constituents, take us backward. We deserve better. But, I can't do it alone. Can you donate to my grassroots campaign? Our public FEC deadline is one week away, and I'm counting on your help to make sure we continue to show strong momentum.
If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately:
If Schweikert gets his way and the ACA is repealed, the consequences here will be devastating:
-
24,000 people in AZ-06 could lose their health insurance.
-
Protections for over 330,000 AZ-06 residents with pre-existing conditions could be stripped away.
-
Over 430,000 Arizonans who rely on Medicaid could lose their coverage.
We deserve representatives who take the real cost to human lives into account when creating legislation. David Schweikert obviously doesn’t. He is focused on appeasing his special interest donors -- who want the ACA repealed -- instead of caring for his fellow Arizonans.
I will always put the people of AZ-06 first. That’s what I’ve done my entire professional career, and that’s why I’m running for Congress.
If you're able to contribute, please stand with me before our FEC deadline. You can donate here: https://act.hiralforcongress.com/eoq
Thank you,

Hiral
