Tell the EPA: Require factory farms to report toxic air pollution.
John,
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has been kicking the can down the road to rein in factory farm air pollution for almost two decades.
It has the opportunity to finally require factory farms to disclose their dangerous emissions and inform communities about what is in the air they’re breathing — but instead, it’s considering keeping illegal exemptions for Big Ag on the books.
Enough. Is. Enough.
Our communities, water, and climate can’t wait any longer. Now, you have a chance to pressure the EPA to act!
Here is some sample comment language to get you started:
I urge you to rein in factory farm pollution and proceed with requiring farms to report their emissions of ammonia and hydrogen sulfide. This is an environmental justice issue and a public health issue, as these hazardous pollutants can cause respiratory harm and other health ailments. Rural communities have been in the dark about the pollution they’re exposed to for too long. Stop caving to Big Ag and hold this polluting industry accountable.
Despite evidence that factory farms harm nearby communities, workers, and the climate, the EPA continues to exempt Big Ag from reporting emissions.
We’re committed to ending factory farming and transitioning to a sustainable and equitable food system. One that protects our air and water, ensures that small to mid-sized family farms can thrive, and treats animals humanely. So we’re saying enough! And you can, too.
P.S. Join us for our next Livable Future Live event on February 21st. You’ll hear from me and my co-workers about how we use the courts to revoke a free pass to pollute.
