Greetings,
?
On Monday, lawmakers will return to the State Capitol to begin the 2024 legislative session. While a complete session roadmap has not been unveiled by the House majority, there is one topic expected to receive some significant attention.
?
STUDENT RESOURCES OFFICERS IN SCHOOLS
We believe the Democrats will want to fix the School Resource Officer?(SRO) problem that their 2023 law changes created very early on in the session. Their change limits how school resource officers are allowed to de-escalate aggressive or violent situations, which caused dozens of law enforcement agencies to pull SROs from?schools across Minnesota. Legislative clarity is needed in order to alleviate concerns about our students, teachers and staff being safe in schools.?Keep in mind, we all want students, teachers and school staff to have a safe environment, so this change is needed. House Republicans also support a change in this law, so we will have to see what the majority proposes.

KEEPING YOU IN THE LOOP
With session resuming, expect to see more frequent updates arriving in your inbox. Next week, I?ll give an overview of some of the topics that could make headlines this session, as well as review anything of significance that happened on the House floor during the first week of session.
