Hello Supporter,
This is a critical time for America’s Arctic. The House of Representatives could soon hold a vote on H.R. 6285 – a single bill that hands HUGE swaths of wild Alaska over to Big Oil.
This is why Alaska Wilderness League - the only national nonprofit devoted solely to the protection of Alaska public lands and waters - is leading the charge stop it from our D.C. headquarters.
Can you chip in to help us succeed?
It’s suddenly all up for grabs:
- The Arctic Refuge.
- 125 million acres of Arctic Ocean.
- 13 million acres of the Western Arctic.
The “Arctic Extraction Bill” prioritizes resource extraction above all other uses, even though they are also sacred lands and cultural resources for Indigenous communities and critical to countless wild creatures.
This extreme legislation would reverse many critical actions undertaken by the Biden-Harris administration to protect the Arctic Refuge and 13 million acres of the Western Arctic from indiscriminate oil drilling. It would require the administration to reissue seven canceled oil leases on the Coastal Plain of the Arctic Refuge, which President Biden rightfully canceled for being illegally issued under the Trump administration. Additionally, the bill would open 125 million acres for oil development in the Arctic Ocean, reversing groundbreaking protections put in place by President Obama.
