VIDEO OF THE DAY: Trump screws himself with damning public confession
The serially indicted, disgraced ex-president did himself no favors when he finally admitted on live TV that the riot he incited on January 6, 2021, was in fact an "insurrection."

Special counsel declines to prosecute Biden over classified documents, takes potshots at his age, prompting furious response from the president
President Biden came out swinging last night, forcefully defending himself against potshots lobbed at his mental acuity by special counsel Robert Hur, a Trump appointee, who declined to prosecute the commander in chief for his handling of classified documents after he left the vice presidency in 2017. While the final report closes the door on any further legal proceedings in the matter, Hur took the highly unusual step of pontificating on how a theoretical jury might rule on Biden's case years down the road and claimed that sympathy for the president in his advanced age might have swayed future jurors and that somehow played a role in his decision not to pursue prosecution. Okaaay. Biden was more than a little unpleased with that characterization and Hur's questions about his age in general, telling reporters, "I've been president and I put this country back on its feet, I don't need his recommendation...I'm well meaning, and I'm an elderly man, and I know what the hell I'm doing."

McConnell plots to use election-denier to retake Senate
Ruben Gallego for Senate: Mitch McConnell will stop at nothing to retake the Senate, even if that means giving power to one of the most radical of Trump’s election-denying, democracy-threatening acolytes, Kari Lake. Her election lies helped spark the mob attack on January 6th and has even called for gun violence if Trump gets convicted of his crimes. This November, she'll be running against star Democratic Congressman Ruben Gallego, and it's on all of us to help Ruben ensure that Kari Lake never sees the inside of the Senate. Will you chip in to protect our Senate majority and elect Ruben Gallego?
US Supreme Court appears sceptical of Colorado's move to bar Donald Trump from ballot
Justices on both wings of the court appeared reluctant to uphold Colorado's ballot ban, suggesting that the disgraced ex-president's status will be restored long before the November general election. Chief Justice John Roberts observed that if the court upheld the Colorado ruling it could unleash chaos on the US political system by granting states the unilateral power to strike candidates from the ballot. And Justice Elena Kagan appeared to agree, noting: "I think that the question that you have to confront is why a single state should decide who gets to be president of the United States." Good question. Now do the electoral college, for f*ck's sake.
Donald Trump wins Nevada Republican caucuses in effective one-horse race
The serially indicted ex-president was anointed the victor of Nevada Republican caucuses, after staunch loyalists in the state helped maneuver the election process to assure his success. Nikki Haley, who lost to "none of these candidates" two days earlier in the convoluted Nevada Republican primary (yep, that's right, TWO contests!) wasn't even on the caucus ballot. Registered Republicans in the state were eligible to vote in both the caucuses AND the primary, but candidates could only compete in one or the other. Makes perfect sense if you don't think about it!

Tucker Carlson proves useful idiot for Vladimir Putin in sycophantic sit-down
Tucker Carlson‘s just-released interview with Vladimir Putin shows the former Fox News host and alt-right fanboy has left shameless behind for pure sycophancy. It would be one thing if the much-hyped sit down from the Kremlin was merely fawning, but instead the freelance white nationalist abdicated any sense of being a significant participant in the interview to let the internationally-scorned Russian president deliver what is for all practical purposes a stump speech. On the handful of occasions when Carlson actually did try to get a word or a question in, Putin knocked him down faster than a shot of vodka at a wedding banquet, spinning wild tales and bending history to conveniently fit his narrative while openly mocking Tucker to his face. Maybe stick to stories on testicle tanning from now on, pal.

Right-wing megadonor Leonard Leo linked to efforts to keep Trump on ballot
Well, well, well. The billionaire ideologue behind the conservative scheme to drag the judiciary to the far right has ties to many of the very groups and people arguing that Donald Trump should stay on the ballot in a case heard before the Supreme Court this week. Who needs a deep state when you've got the deepest pockets in all the land?

New videos contradict NYPD account of lead-up to Times Square officer-involved tussle
The media has been hysterically obsessing over this story of a "migrant attack" on NYPD officers, using it as an excuse to call for mass deportations and harsh anti-immigration policy. But as usual, it turns out the police side of the story just wasn't true. While the police claimed that 24-year-old Yohenry Brito disobeyed a lawful order and became confrontational, bodycam footage shows Brito clearly walking away and getting assaulted by one of the cops after Brito quipped that he "looked like ugly Betty." While there's no condoning his boys jumping in and kicking the officers, once again the situation was unnecessarily escalated to violence by an insecure cop who sees it as his right to brutalize a young person of color in a public place.
Republican lawmaker warns the "Great Replacement" is coming
Michigan state Representative and man who probably screams "snowflakes!" more than he should Josh Schriver used his office’s official account to elevate a ridiculous white supremacist conspiracy theory on whatever we're calling Twitter these days. The post, which includes an image depicting Black silhouettes covering much of the world, with white silhouettes straddling small portions of Canada, Northern Europe, and Australia, was captioned, "The great replacement!" referring to a white nationalist far-right conspiracy theory that baselessly purports that nonwhite people, especially from Arab countries, are demographically replacing white populations. Despite pushback, Schriver doubled down in a follow-up post, stating that he doesn't "believe God is a racist but He does love the races." Something tells us Schriver thinks God loves certain races a little more than others.
