It’s difficult to read Robert Hur’s report regarding President Biden. It’s clear that the government has work to do to improve the security of national security information, but it’s even more disheartening to read about the lapses in President Biden’s memory.
I’ve sat in many high level national security meetings, where every detail is a matter of life and death. You don’t want someone Hur described as “a sympathetic, well meaning, elderly man with a poor memory” as president.
The Presidency requires us to be at our best — to have all of our competencies at the ready for when the phone rings at 3 am.
This narrative further emboldens President Trump as he seeks to be reelected. Regardless of the severity of Biden’s memory, this adds to the public perception that he is not capable of leading the country. And we know Trump is certainly unable to. And unlike Joe Biden, Trump intentionally stole classified documents and may have sold them. So why are we settling for a rematch?
It's time for the next generation. When I'm President, you will always get nothing but my best to secure the American Dream for all of our families. That means a safe, affordable, and welcoming United States. We thank President Biden for his service over the last fifty plus years. Let us take it from here.
Best,
Dean
