Of all of the newspaper headlines we’ve seen about Marie’s victory on Tuesday, I’ve gotta say, this one from the Riverside-Brookfield Landmark holds a special place in my heart.
"Newman topples Lipinski dynasty in the 3rd District"
It’s been a whirlwind of a week, and I don’t think I can accurately put into words the scale of what this team just did. Defeating an eight-term, machine-backed incumbent is something practically unheard of in politics -- but, together, we pulled it off.
The team has been compiling some key numbers, so I’ll let them do the talking:
- Over 200,000 calls made
- Over 100,000 doors knocked
- Over 50,000 postcards mailed
- 318 meet-and-greet events throughout the Third District
- $2 million raised from over 34,500 individual donors
We should all be super proud of that.
Because of you, we’re one step closer to giving IL-03 a representative who shares their values -- someone who will put them over the wealthy corporations and special interests.
But we’re not there yet. Now we’re turning our focus to the general election and making sure we send Marie to Congress. There are just seven months to go, so we can’t slow down.
