Friend,
I first ran for office because the school board and city council in my town didn’t get along. As they argued, our kids lost out on critical resources and programs — so I decided to get involved. I ran for city council as a proud public school PTA dad and won. I was able to help bring the school board and the city council together for the most important job of all: making sure our kids have a bright future.
All these years later, my passion for helping the next generation has never stopped. I’ve worked hard in Sacramento to increase public school funding, screen every first grader for dyslexia, and make sure special needs students get the resources they need. I passed groundbreaking legislation to treat mental health the same as physical health in our schools and to provide more tools for teachers to be able to notice when students are struggling and need help.
I’m proud to be endorsed by the California Federation of Teachers (CFT), the California School Employees Association (CSEA), and educational leaders from across Southern California.
In Washington, I’ll never stop fighting to ensure that every kid is able to get an education setting them up for success.
Be well,
Anthony Portantino
