Californians are leaders in the 30x30 movement to conserve and protect our sacred places that are the center of some of the most bio-diverse regions on the planet before the deadline for climate action in 2030.

Recently one of our California leaders, in collaboration with the tribes and local community in the California Desert, submitted a new area to be protected as a national monument, and we’re excited to invite you to join a pivotal movement!

The Pressing Need for Conservation

California’s public lands face unprecedented threats from corporate polluters as they try to use more public spaces for damaging drilling, mining, and other polluting projects.

California deserts are are beautiful ecosystems, that while robust are extremely fragile if damaged and are the lifelines of diverse ecosystems and cultural histories, sanctuaries for wildlife with no voice but yours and mine.

This is where you come in, friend. Your voice can make a difference. 

Will you sign our petition urging President Biden to protect and expand California’s natural legacy by establishing the Chuckwalla National Monument and expanding Joshua Tree National Park?

Now imagine a landscape sprawling over 660,000 acres, rich in biodiversity and cultural heritage, located just south of the iconic Joshua Tree National Park.

This is the vision for the Chuckwalla National Monument. An area brimming with life, from the resilient desert tortoise to the majestic bighorn sheep, and home to sacred sites of five Indigenous tribes.

More Than Just Land

This initiative is more than a conservation effort; it’s a commitment to ensuring that these natural spaces are accessible to everyone, especially those in communities that lack access to open space.

And these lands must be protected for the sake of the Indigenous peoples whose homelands lay within the regions, including the Iviatim, Nüwü, Pipa Aha Macav, Kwatsáan and Maara’yam peoples (Cahuilla, Chemehuevi, Mojave, Quechan and Serrano nations). 

By establishing the Chuckwalla monument and expanding Joshua Tree National Park by about 17,000 acres, we’re not only preserving a one-of-a-kind landscape, but also expanding the opportunities for outdoor recreation and education, and protecting the homelands of Indigenous peoples.
