Rest in Peace, Toby Keith…A Genuine & Authentic Patriot

I admire songwriters more than singers. They are poets. And then there is the unique songwriter who can then add music to their lyrics. Even rarer is a writer and musician who can sing and perform in front of audiences. Toby Keith was one of those rare individuals. I met him behind stage years ago before a Texas concert. He was a genuine and authentic patriot who traveled repeatedly to perform for our troops overseas. He wrote the song “Don’t Let the Old Man In” after playing golf with Clint Eastwood, who was making the movie “The Mule.” Clint told Toby he stays young by not letting the old man in. It’s one of my many Toby favorites. If you haven’t heard it, click here to watch the video. He passed too soon at 62 from stomach cancer. I have a cowboy hat he signed that sits proudly in my office and always will.
