This is urgent: Congress is negotiating *right now* on a bill to revive
the economy. Mitch McConnell is demanding a $500 billion slush fund to
bail out big corporations with no oversight and no protections for
workers. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer might give it to him. We
have to stop this.

What we need instead is a stimulus aimed at the grassroots -- one that
helps workers, families, and small businesses. A stimulus that puts money
in your pocket right away. Your voice is crucial at this decisive moment.

Democrats in the Senate yesterday blocked Mitch McConnell's effort to move
ahead with his $500 billion slush fund. But negotiations are happening as
you read this email, and we don't have much time to lose.

Instead, leaders like Elizabeth Warren and Maxine Waters are proposing
stimulus that would actually help working people stay afloat financially
as we all hunker down to stop the coronavirus.

We need to make sure any stimulus includes the following:

* Conditions that any company that takes bailout money cannot lay off
workers
* Prohibitions against CEOs getting bonuses and shareholders getting
stock buybacks
* A guaranteed $15 minimum wage for all workers
* Direct cash payments to working people, not to the wealthy elite
* Forgiveness of at least some existing student loan debt
* Funding for hospitals 
* Financial aid to state and local governments
* Grants to help small businesses stay afloat and reopen when
quarantines are over

We also need to make sure the bill protects the November election by
including a national vote-by-mail program.

In 2008 Congress passed a bad bailout that made Wall Street richer but did
little for the rest of us. Mitch McConnell's bailout is even worse! But we
have a great opportunity now to provide meaningful and desperately needed
economic stimulus to millions of people.

Unemployment may hit 30% in the coming weeks. This is an unprecedented
crisis. We need bold solutions aimed at the grassroots, not a slush fund
