Dear Friend,
It's official! ALL bills impacting transgender young people in Virginia were DEFEATED! Thank you to everyone who called, emailed or had a meeting with their lawmaker about the dangers of the bills. A special thank you to everyone, including our partners, who traveled to Richmond to testify. This is a win for the community, by the community!
Now, as we turn the corner away from divisive, discriminatory rhetoric that takes aim at transgender Virginians, it’s time to focus on what really matters: making Virginia's educational spaces more welcoming and inclusive for LGBTQ+ youth. I hope you'll take two minutes to send a message to your Virginia Delegate in support of legislation that would strengthen anti-bullying and harassment policy in Virginia.
House Bill 536 is receiving its final vote in the House of Delegates TOMORROW (Friday, February 9th). We need YOU to speak up in support of including LGBTQ+ students in the enumerated protections in school anti-bullying policies. By passing House Bill 536 we can improve not only mental health outcomes, but also academic performance, for so many of our students. Urge your Delegate to support HB 536 NOW [[link removed]] !
