Team,

Yesterday, we were at the West Virginia State Capitol as part of Black Policy Day — an amazing organizing event led by one of our grantees, WV Black Voter Impact Initiative — to bring community voices to state lawmakers’ front door and advocate for change.

Two photos. One is a picture of the Black Policy Day pamplet, and the other is a picture of two people smiling. From left to right: Groundwork Grantee Dr. Smith from WV Black Voter Impact Initiative, who co-organized Black Policy Day, and Jay, our Program Officer!

For far too long, Black voters have been ignored, overlooked, and taken for granted by people in power.

That’s why WV Black Voter Impact hosts this annual event — to organize around important issues and bridge the gap between community members and elected officials.

The CROWN Act, a bill that would protect people from race-based hair discrimination, is just one example of the legislation we’re putting on lawmakers’ radars.

Thanks to this grassroots team, we’re able to support our partners on the ground, like WV Black Voter Impact Initiative, who are working year-round to uplift their communities, rally for policy change, and make a difference at the local level. Can you chip in $10 today to help us expand our reach even further?

While it may not make national headlines, this work truly makes a difference in our everyday lives — so thank you for taking the time to contribute toward these efforts.
