Power outages aren’t your typical every day issue that need fixing. But you’d be surprised by the number of small businesses and families that are affected by long-term power outages — especially right here in Oakland County.

That’s why I got down to business and met with impacted folks in MI-11 to discuss my new legislation, the Prolonged Power Outage Relief Act.

This bill takes existing appropriated dollars from the Small Business Administration, and allows businesses and residents to apply for low-interest loans during power outages.

Last summer, a small business in MI-11 suffered a loss of $10,000 from a prolonged power outage. And let’s face it, with climate change, unpredictable storms can unexpectedly knock out the power for weeks.

Michiganders shouldn’t need to feel the repercussions of things that are out of their control. Which is why as a member of Congress, I’ll continue working on legislation like this one that takes even the slightest burden off the shoulders of our residents.

I’ll always have the back of my constituents, but delivering results like this requires a group effort. Will you chip in $25 today to help me defend MI-11 and give Democrats a better chance at reclaiming the House majority? [[link removed]]
