Give us Your Feedback on the Distribution of EnerGuide Labels
CHBA BC

The CHBA BC Energy Programs department is reviewing how we provide the EnerGuide for New Homes rating label and reports.

Currently, labels are printed and mailed directly to builders. The labels are intended to be affixed to the electrical panel of the EnerGuide-rated home. Moving forward, we are investigating how to make this process digital, allowing access to labels much faster.

If you participate in the EnerGuide Rating System and haven't yet responded to our one-minute survey, please let us know your thoughts now.

Electrical Code Consultation: Changes to Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment, Energy Management Systems and Energy Storage Systems
Technical Safety BC

Technical Safety BC will be hosting a public consultation to gather feedback on the impact of adopting the 2024 Canadian Electrical Code (CE Code) into BC regulation. Your input will help TSBC assess the impact of these code changes before submitting their recommendation to the Province of BC on its suitability for adoption.

Key changes for residential construction:
  • Adds electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) and electric vehicle energy management system (EVEMS) demand factors to load calculations for all buildings except for single dwellings.
  • Allows for the installation of an energy storage system (ESS), including ESS rated 1 kWh or less, within a dwelling unit.
Please share this information with your electrical contractors for feedback. Contact Pauline Rupp to inform CHBA BC's submission, or provide direct input to Technical Safety BC through their Engage page.

Review a summary of proposed changes here.

Peer Learning Network (PLN) Input & Engagement Survey
Planning Institute of British Columbia

PIBC has received funding from the Province of BC - Ministry of Housing for the planning, development and implementation of a Peer Learning Network (PLN). PIBC has been working to finalize plans for the first phases of this initiative, which are moving forward in the coming days and weeks. PIBC is now seeking input to finalize those plans and would appreciate planning practitioners completing this brief survey.

The survey is open until 4:00 pm PT on February 16, 2024.

Provincial Webinar Series on the Implementation of Legislation to Increase Housing Supply
BC government

In November 2023, new legislation was introduced to amend the Local Government Act and the Vancouver Charter to increase housing supply. The Province has been hosting a series of webinars to support local government implementation of this legislation: Bills 44, 46, and 47.

These webinars have all been recorded and are available to watch here. Each one provides technical overviews of the requirements of legislation and regulations and a question-and-answer period.

CHBA BC would encourage our members to review these recordings and speak to their local municipality about how they are responding to the changes.
