In August 2023, devastating wildfires, spurred by dry conditions and strong winds in the aftermath of Hurricane Dora, swept through the Hawaiian Islands, killing 97 people, causing major destruction and displacing thousands. Within days, Americares deployed emergency teams that immediately assessed the needs of local health care facilities and coordinated emergency shipments of medicine and relief supplies.
In the last 6 months, we’ve helped our partners in Hawaii deliver hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of medicine and medical supplies. In Lahaina, we helped fund a fully equipped mobile clinic to provide health care to unhoused residents who have been impacted by the fire. As communities struggled to recover, our experts provided mental health training to partners across the island. The recovery is expected to take years and we will continue to provide our partners with the critical resources they need to help their communities. All of these efforts have been made possible by humanitarians like you.
