Dear John,

In order to tackle the climate crisis, we must cut greenhouse gas emissions and develop resilient infrastructure. In order to do that, we must transition away from fossil fuels. The good news is, this can be good for the economy.

Yet, the fossil fuel industry is spending billions to keep profiting from pollution at the expense of our health and crumbling infrastructure. We need your help. Join the tens of thousands who signed the petition: the U.S. can cut emissions and grow the economy.

We’re fighting to cut emissions and build a green economy here in New York. The NY Renews People’s Climate Budget is a $1 billion spending plan developed by and for New Yorkers that will lead to cleaner energy and cheaper bills, help us transition New York’s most polluting fossil-fuel power plants into renewable energy hubs, create green union jobs, and improve air quality in frontline communities statewide.

In 2023, we witnessed emissions go down as our economy grew. The renewable energy sector boosted job growth in every state across the country. Countries around the world are reducing carbon emissions while continuing to grow economically. We can and must continue to do the same.

We are in the midst of the global climate crisis, and it will keep getting worse so long as inaction wins. Reducing emissions is not only vital for tackling the crisis — it is vital for sustaining our economic health.

In Solidarity,

Jenille Scott
