This is a long email about why I’m running for Congress -- if you don’t have time to read it, I hope you’ll consider making a donation to my campaign before our FEC end-of-quarter deadline:

When I decided to run for Congress, some people told me not to. They said I was too young, this is a conservative district, I don’t stand a chance. I didn’t listen.

When I explained that healthcare is a human right, people told me to slow it down. Medicare for All is too big, let’s take smaller steps. I didn’t listen.

When I said student loan debt should be cancelled, people told me that was too expensive -- we can’t afford to invest that much in our future. I didn’t listen.

But you know who I did listen to? The people. I listened to the people in my majority-minority district who are lacking healthcare and can’t make ends meet with a far-too-low minimum wage. I listened to my mother, who just lost her job and is worried about surviving.

There’s a call in this country -- a call for progress on behalf of the people who have been ignored for too long, on behalf of people of color, of the LGBTQ+ community, of women, of the working class. That’s the call I’m listening to.

That’s why I refuse to dream smaller or think in increments. Every day we wait to move forward, there’s a human cost.
