After playing a significant role in torpedoing the bipartisan Senate immigration bill that he and other Republicans pressed for, our part-time senator decided to pivot back to a familiar conservative safe space: attacking public schools and openly supporting extremist “parental rights” groups.
After recently claiming school choice is “the civil rights issue of the 21st century,” Cruz’s comments fit into the larger pattern we’ve seen among Republicans politicizing public schools and the rise of the parental rights movement.
One such group, Moms for Liberty — who our part-time senator has continued to endorse, even after the Southern Poverty Law Center designated the organization as a hate group last year.

Moms for Liberty — which grew out of opposition to public health regulations during the pandemic has become the most successful group in pushing Republicans nationwide to pass bills that ban books, attack trans kids and whitewash the history our kids learn.
To be clear: If Ted and groups like Moms for Liberty and others actually cared about students and public schools, they would be pushing for things that actively make a difference, such as common sense gun laws and increased funding.
