John, I just flew in to D.C. to support our legal action to disqualify Donald Trump – being heard at the Supreme Court right now.
And I’m astounded by what Trump’s lawyer just claimed. They’re saying openly that even a candidate who admits to being an insurrectionist should still be allowed to run for office and even win the election!
I wanted to send this update to you immediately so you can see how extreme Trump’s team is willing to go to defy Section 3 of the Fourteenth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution to allow him to escape the consequences of inciting insurrection.
The Constitution is clear on this. No person – not a president, nor a former president – can hold any office if they have engaged in insurrection. There are no exceptions.
I’m headed over to the Supreme Court now, but I want to leave you with this: The whole team here at Common Cause stands with CREW to fight tooth and nail to hold Trump accountable for leading an insurrection and violating the U.S. Constitution.
But we’re up against a lot, so if you’re able please consider chipping in whatever you can today and sending a loud and clear message that no one, not even a former president of the United States, is above the law: https://secure.actblue.com/donate/feb24-disqualifytrump-scotus
Thank you,
Aly Belknap, Executive Director, Colorado Common Cause
