John,

I know it can be challenging to stay positive during this siege of scary news.

Times are certainly tough, but that doesn’t mean we can’t smile and enjoy some positivity.

I wanted to share some heartwarming stories that have made me smile over the past few days -- I hope they make you smile and remember that despite this crisis, people are still looking out for each other. We are all in this together.

Storm Lake School District and Other Iowa Schools Work to Ensure Lunches for Kids

Because of school closures across the country, many children were left without their usual source of breakfasts and lunches: the school cafeteria. The Storm Lake School District [ [link removed]] and other Iowa school districts have started handing out “grab-and-go” lunches to students. Storm Lake Schools open their doors for students to pick up a meal, and they are also using school buses to drop off lunches across the district.

They are doing great work making sure no child goes hungry -- thank you!

Iowa Musicians Perform Online Concerts

Though movie theaters have closed and concerts have been canceled, films are being released on-demand earlier, and musicians are taking their performances online. Here are some Iowan artists performing [ [link removed]] -- support them by listening, buying their music, or purchasing some merch!

93-year-old Iowa Woman Gets a Special Happy Birthday

During times like this, our love and care for our community always shines through. Neighbors are checking on each other and running errands for those in need. Keep in touch with your distant friends and family, and don’t forget to give our neighbors like Mrs. Linder [ [link removed]] a wave to make sure they’re doing well too.

Stay safe and healthy out there. I’m thinking of you all -- this isn’t an easy time, but when we remember our humanity and kindness, this gets a little easier.

Standing Tall for All,

J.D. Scholten
