The Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA) mission is “Serving Minnesota Veterans, their dependents and survivors by connecting them with the federal and state care and benefits they have earned.” In short, we serve those who have served and sacrificed for this nation and state. This is a mission that I have dedicated the last 25 years of my life to, and frankly, I wouldn’t want to do anything else. Passion for MDVA’s mission has taken me from an entry-level position as a Veteran Assistance Coordinator in 1999 to the top job of MDVA Commissioner in 2023. How many other places could an employee even think to achieve that?
I think it is a rare thing to find a job with opportunities for advancement and a mission that you can be passionate about. It’s easy to be passionate about serving those who have given so much of themselves for the benefit of others. Whether the job is helping an Iraq War Veteran with their VA disability claim due to an illness connected to their military service or providing compassionate care to a Vietnam Veteran at the end of their life, MDVA staff make a difference in the lives of Veterans, one Veteran at a time.
A career with the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs is challenging and fulfilling. I’m proud of our staff and the work we do for Minnesota Veterans all over the state in dozens of locations to include four State Veterans Cemeteries and eight State Veterans Homes.
