We’re nearing the end of the 2023-24 legislative session, which means we’re once again running out of time to compel our politicians to enact lifesaving gun violence prevention laws.

One hopeful piece of legislation – the Gun Shop Project – would help prevent gun suicides. The bills (AB173/SB205), call on gun shops to become active partners in helping save lives. The Gun Shop Project would incentivize gun stores to train their employees in suicide prevention and offer temporary gun storage to gun owners.

Thanks to pressure from Wisconsinites like you, both houses passed the bills out of committee – already a victory for gun violence prevention in Wisconsin! Now, the full Assembly and Senate must vote on them! Contact your legislators now; tell them to urge their leaders to bring these bills to a vote.

Suicide prevention is a critical piece of reducing gun violence. We’re grateful to the legislators on both sides of the aisle who have co-sponsored and supported these bills.

To keep this momentum going, we must demand that all members of our legislature vote on these bills. Our lawmakers can urge Speaker Vos and Senate Majority Leader LeMahieu to bring them to a vote next week.
