Meet Jane Doe.

She is one of the countless women who have been sex trafficked in legal, state-sanctioned Nevada brothels.

While many think that legalizing prostitution makes it safer and less exploitative, Jane Doe's story shows the truth. The abuses Jane Doe endured in these brothels are unconscionable. 

She was forced to live in the brothels, surrounded by high, barbed wire fences and locked gates that she didn't have the keys to. She was not allowed to leave, nor even step outside into the locked yard, without asking for permission.

She was denied her medication and given spoiled food that put her in the hospital. 

The brothel took 50% of the money that she got from the sex buyers

and

charged her exorbitant fees on top of that—such as a weekly cleaning fee, despite the fact that she and the other prostituted women did the cleaning themselves. 

When Jane Doe wanted to go to the police about the abuses happening at the brothels, she was bullied and threatened with legal action.

Finally, she was kicked out into the street in her pajamas, without any of her documents, belongings, or her final paycheck. 

Jane Doe is now bravely speaking up and joining with the NCOSE Law Center to sue the brothel owners, as well as the state of Nevada for enabling Jane's exploitation with their policy of legalized prostitution. The lawsuit argues that what Jane Doe experienced at the brothels is a violation of the 13th amendment—it is slavery in the form of sex trafficking.
