Dear AAI family,
Thank you to all who have reached out after hearing of the passing of Mrs. Eileen Zogby– it was truly
beautiful to hear from so many of you. Many asked about ways you can
show your support to Jim and honor Eileen’s memory. With that, I write
today to share the establishment of the Eileen Patricia McMahon Zogby Irish Education Fund at
LeMoyne College.
As many of you know, in addition to being an essential
partner with Jim in the work to support Arab Americans and justice for
Palestinians, Eileen had a great love of her Irish roots. The Zogby
family established the Eileen Patricia McMahon Zogby Irish Education
Fund at her and Jim’s alma mater, LeMoyne
College. It is where they first met and
began their work in support of social justice at home and aboard. In
creating this fund, work in support of teaching about Ireland’s
history, including the creation of an Irish Lecture Series and student
educational travel to Ireland, will be done. While Eileen had many
passions, the ability to honor her memory by focusing on her Ireland
is something she would have loved.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to
the Eileen
Patricia McMahon Zogby Irish Education Fund.
Finally, the funeral mass and celebration of Eileen’s life
will take place at the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament in
Washington, D.C. as soon as the societal response to COVID-19 will
allow for it. We will keep you updated.
Thank you again for all of your support. On behalf of Jim,
our staff and board, we hope you and your loved ones remain well and
safe.
Best regards,
Maya

marks the passage of Eileen Zogby
Dear AAI family,
It is with deep sorrow and a heavy heart
that I write to inform you of the passing of Eileen Patricia McMahon
Zogby, spouse of AAI President and Co-Founder, Dr. James Zogby.
Our thoughts and prayers are
with the entire Zogby family during this difficult time, including
Jim, their five children, Joseph Roy, Elizabeth Ann, Sara Hope,
Matthew Thomas, Mary-Margaret and their 13 grandchildren.
Her compassion, intellect, love of life,
and courage inspired Jim and all of us who knew her. Jim credits
Eileen’s zeal for justice and the rights of Palestinians as a source
of motivation for his own lifelong pursuit of both causes. She was a
full partner in his life and work, often serving as a gut-check with a
side of sharp wit and humor.
Eileen’s selfless support of this work empowered so much of
the advocacy our community knows today, and motivated Jim and their
children to make service to their communities part of their everyday
lives. She was integral to the founding of the Arab American
Institute, and was key to the groundbreaking work of the Palestine
Human Rights Campaign and the humanitarian efforts of
Save Lebanon.
Eileen Zogby has left our community an amazing legacy and she
will be sorely missed by the entire AAI family.
For those who want to express condolences or show support to
the Zogby family, we will share information as it becomes
available.
Sincerely,
Maya
