Before coming to Congress, I spent my entire career as a labor activist, fighting to get hardworking people the pay and safe working conditions they deserve.

I fought alongside firefighters, first responders, meatpackers, and grocery store workers to ensure they had the power to collectively bargain for better wages and benefits.

That’s why standing with and advocating for workers is among my top priorities in Congress. Since being elected in 2022, thanks to the support of the grassroots movement I've:

✅ Introduced the LEAP Act — bipartisan legislation to help fill the job skills gap by providing tax credits to small businesses that hire apprenticeship employees. This bill will prepare folks for careers in growing industries and support local businesses by addressing the need for more qualified workers and easing the costs of training job seekers.

✅ Worked alongside Illinois Governor Pritzker to secure an investigation of U.S. Steel by the Illinois Department of Labor after they laid off hundreds of Granite City plant workers without notice or recourse.

✅ Introduced the Tools Tax Deduction Act — bipartisan legislation to allow apprenticeship employees and construction workers to write off the expense of the tools and equipment required for their profession.
