An identical twin, girlfriend, advocate, and future surgeon-- this is Yazmin’s story

Friend -- we’re back with another story of powerful immigrant resilience:

Yazmin is an identical twin, a girlfriend, an advocate, and future surgeon in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Originally from Mexico, Yazmin faced incredible obstacles just like many of us do by being a person of color, immigrant, womxn, and undocumented. But like many of us, she survived and has thrived.

Watch this video of Yazmin as she shares her story with us:

Yazmin is one of the 27 DACA recipients who joined United We Dream to fearlessly share their stories with the Supreme Court to tell them to stop Trump from killing DACA.

As we inch closer to a final decision on DACA, it’s important to remember how our creativity and resilience has helped us make it through and thrive!

Yazmin and thousands of other undocumented immigrations are also at the front-lines of this COVID-19 pandemic. That is why we’re must demand for the Supreme Court to delay their decision on DACA. If the decision is issued, it would open Yazmin and THOUSANDS of immigrant families to deportation while they are already heavily impacted by this pandemic.

Help spread the word that our #HomeIsHere and demand that SCOTUS postpone their decision by sharing Yazmin’s story with friends and family:

Through-out her early childhood in the U.S., Yazmin was told by her mother that hard work paid off, so she sought to accomplish many achievements in hopes of being deemed worthy. However, due to her status, she realized that hard work alone wasn’t enough when racist laws hold us back. Getting her DACA in the mail gave her a sense of relief, and with DACA and a renewed sense of self love, she was able to strive for an education and get into medical school.

Like so many of us, Yazmin was able to reach one of her dreams with DACA. And while that’s an important part of her life, Yazmin’s journey has made her realize that her real power comes from the strength within her community and she will continue to fight for justice no matter what the Supreme Court says.

Join Yazmin and other United We Dream members as we honor the strength and resilience of everyone in our communities. Our #HomeIsHere.

With love,

Mari and the rest of the UWD team
