Friend,
This week marks the ten year anniversary of President Barack Obama signing the Affordable Care Act (ACA) into law -- ten years of expanding health coverage for millions of Americans, ten years of lowering health care costs, and ten years of protecting patients from insurance company abuses.
I am proud that I worked on this legislation and prouder still that it remains in place today.
The last ten years have proved that the ACA is an incredibly effective piece of legislation, despite many attempts by Republicans to make it fail. Over the last decade Republicans in Congress and in state legislatures across the country have chipped away at these vital protections, even going so far as to vote to overturn the ACA dozens of times at the Congressional level.
All of this is to say that while we can celebrate how far we’ve come in the 10 years since passing the ACA, the fight for affordable health care is far over.
In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and the uncertainty it brings, Democrats at all levels of government are working to ensure that all Americans have access to quality, affordable health care. A single trip to the hospital should not mean months or years of debt, especially when going to the hospital could be the difference between life and death.
While we’re ten years into the fight, know that Democrats are working harder than ever to expand and protect your care.
Thank you,
Rep. Frank Pallone
