After years of hiding his financial records, Donald Trump is facing investigations that could reveal his shady dealings — but he still refuses to turn them over. Multiple courts have ordered compliance with these subpoenas, but Trump has been able to rely on one backstop: his hijacked Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court is the only reason investigators aren't going through Trump’s taxes and financial records with a fine-toothed comb right now. It has not only stopped the subpoenas dead in their tracks, it has even refused to hear the cases quickly.

The Court was supposed to finally hear oral arguments next week, but now, it has postponed them. While we obviously agree with the decision to not hold in-person arguments right now, the Court refuses to announce a plan to make sure the cases get decided this term. Millions of Americans — including our team here at Demand Justice — are finding new ways to keep doing their jobs remotely. With so much on the line, the Supreme Court should be able to do the same.

Last Monday, on behalf of the American people, we urged the Supreme Court to announce a plan within one week that would ensure that the cases about Donald Trump’s tax returns are heard and decided this term, so the public could know the truth before November. One week later, John Roberts is still silent.

That’s why we’re presenting John Roberts with our list of demands. Before we submit them at 8pm tonight, will you be a co-signer and demand John Roberts tell Americans how the Supreme Court plans to hear and decide Trump’s tax return cases this term?

Trump is counting on Kavanaugh and Gorsuch to come through for him again, circumventing the will of the people and our democratic norms. We can’t let Republican Supreme Court justices keep rewriting the rules in favor of Trump. Add your name to our letter before we send it at 8pm tonight: Demand John Roberts hold Donald Trump accountable, because no one — not even the president — is above the law.

This isn’t just about corruption; it’s about transparency. Republican justices can’t be trusted to play fair. The Supreme Court may need to meet remotely (as many state Supreme Courts, lower federal courts, and, of course, Americans across the country are doing) and broadcast arguments. Unprecedented times call for unprecedented solutions. Reinforcing the foundations of our democracy and the rule of law has never been more important.
