Comment Period For Master Plan Variance For Peninsula State Park Will Reopen
Current Public Comment Period To Close Feb. 8, Revised Variance To Come
?
MADISON, Wis. ? The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) today announced it is revising a variance to the Northern Lake Michigan Coastal Regional Master Plan and will open a second public comment period. The revised variance, which includes management for Peninsula State Park in Door County, will address requests for additional and clarifying information regarding the potential areas of impact.
The Wisconsin DNR has received a high volume of comments on the variance regarding a proposal to add additional parking and reroute or reconfigure access roads to expand capacity, improve public safety, expand accessibility and alleviate congestion at Eagle Tower, Eagle Terrace and Eagle Panorama.
The current public comment period opened on Jan. 24 and is scheduled to close on Feb. 8. The department will develop a revised variance to address comments and requests received during the initial comment period.
An updated variance will be issued with a second public comment period as soon as is feasible.
Located on the west side of the Door Peninsula near Fish Creek, the 3,800-acre Peninsula State Park is one of Wisconsin?s top state park destinations, offering a wide variety of year-round outdoor recreation opportunities. Eagle Tower and Eagle Bluff Lighthouse are two of the park?s most popular attractions.
The public can review the current draft variances by visiting the DNR?s Northern Lake Michigan Coastal Regional Master Plan webpage.
The department appreciates all public comment and interest in these projects. The public is encouraged to submit comments regarding the proposed variances to the Northern Lake Michigan Coastal Regional Master Plan and to continue their engagement when the revised variance is released.
