Friend, EnviroVoters is on the frontlines in the fight against Big Oil.
We got eight huge priority climate and democracy bills passed last year, including the groundbreaking Climate Corporate Leadership and Accountability Act (SB 253) and Climate Financial Risk Disclosure Act (SB 261), which will usher in a new era of accountability and responsibility in the corporate world.
Still, 15 key bills that would have invested in clean air, water, transportation, and buildings failed to even make it to the Governor’s desk last year.
One of those failed bills was SB 252, which would have stopped California’s public pension funds for state employees and teachers from investing in fossil fuel companies. It was the only bill out of three in our corporate accountability package with SB 253 and SB 261 that did not pass in 2023.
This should come as no surprise given how contaminated the legislature still is with the corrosive influence of oil money.
California can’t truly be a global leader in the climate fight if it leaves critical climate solutions like these on the table.
Corporate responsibility is a 2024 priority for EnviroVoters.
