** Flu Shots During Pregnancy Failed to Lower the Risk of Fetal Death, Preterm Birth and Low Birth Weight, and For Some Outcomes, Infants of Unvaccinated Moms Fared Better
------------------------------------------------------------
By the Children's Health Defense Team

A research team out of South Africa has just published a paper comparing four outcomes—fetal death, low birth weight, small for gestational age birth and preterm birth—for infants whose mothers received flu shots or a placebo.

In their surprisingly frank conclusions, not only do the researchers report that influenza vaccination during pregnancy was ineffective in lowering risk for the four outcomes, but—ever so cautiously—they also note that the vaccinated infants fared worse.

** An Untenable Status Quo—Conflicts of Interest Must Go
------------------------------------------------------------
By the Children's Health Defense Team

The passage of the National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act (NCVIA) in 1986 was a watershed event that emboldened vaccine manufacturers and their public- and private-sector accomplices to systematically hide the serious damage caused by vaccines.

In addition to making a mockery of pre-licensing safety testing and post-marketing surveillance, they have regularly exaggerated both the benefits and effectiveness of vaccination and broadcast deceptive studies that whitewash questions inconvenient to the financial bottom line.

From multiple standpoints—not least of which is children’s dismal state of health—the status quo is untenable.

From Kim Mack Rosenberg, attorney for NY lawsuit for religious exemptions and IDEA ([link removed]) :

In the IEP litigation, a motion was filed for a preliminary injunction on August 5, 2019. Plaintiffs’ motion argued that they meet and exceed the traditional standards to grant an injunction staying the New York law’s implementation but also that the Court could issue an automatic injunction allowing students to “stay put” in the current placements according to their IEPs.

Judge Allyne Ross in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York has set an expedited briefing schedule for this motion. The Defendants have to file any opposition papers by August 13 and the Plaintiffs have to file their reply by August 16. A hearing date has not been set.

** Why We Shouldn’t Take Peer Review as the ‘Gold Standard’
------------------------------------------------------------
By Paul D. Thacker and Jon Tennant, The Washington Post

Researchers commonly refer to peer review as the “gold standard,” which makes it seem as if a peer-reviewed paper — one sent by journal editors to experts in the field who assess and critique it before publication — must be legitimate, and one that’s not reviewed must be untrustworthy. But peer review, a practice dating to the 17th century, is neither golden nor standardized.

Shoddy work often makes it past peer reviewers, while excellent research has been shot down. Peer reviewers often fail to detect bad research, conflicts of interest and corporate ghostwriting.
