San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance - Urgent Need Alert!
Dear John,
This is a story we wish we didn’t need to share.
We’re reaching out today because you are one of our most dedicated allies and we urgently need your help.

We received the call at 3 am. Three baby spider monkeys, only weeks old, were confiscated at the Mexican border in Calexico by U.S. Customs and Border Protection authorities during an illegal smuggling attempt. Immediately, San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance’s wildlife care specialists went into action.

They arrived to find the babies shivering, scared, and clinging to each other, their big eyes peering out of a duffel bag. Malnourished and in desperate need of help, the trio was brought to the Paul Harter Veterinary Medical Center where they received 24-hour expert care.

They are the lucky ones. “Too often the outcome for smuggled wildlife is poor,” said Dr. Hendrik Nollens, Vice President of Wildlife Health. “This is the best-case scenario. Still, we wish they weren’t here in the first place.”

The babies are now nine months old and have come a long way. Allies like you make efforts like this possible. But John, we still urgently need your help for their continued care.

Your support is absolutely vital to fund the rescue and specialized care for trafficked wildlife, as well as our conservation work around the globe.

This story could have had a heartbreaking ending, but San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance and our partners were able to step in right in time. Please help ensure we can be there when needed.
