Friend, during Black History Month and year-round, we must remember that there is no justice for immigrants without racial justice.
February is Black History Month. As we honor the resilience and contributions of Black people, let this month be a reminder that our movement is grounded in the fight for Black liberation.
Immigrant justice is racial justice. Anti-Blackness actively operates to silence the voices of Black folks, particularly impacting Black immigrants who face the racist and xenophobic policies of the legal and immigration systems as they navigate courtrooms and detention centers.
Every day, we fight to create a future where immigrants can live in safety and dignity. Multiracial solidarity is at the center of that fight. Often, the concept of scarcity — that there are not enough resources to go around — upholds this country’s vast carceral and immigration enforcement systems. But we know the richness and abundance in our communities, and we’re committed to debunking these falsehoods.
All year round, not just during Black History Month, we must fight for Black liberation. We must embrace unity and celebrate a shared commitment to collective justice for all. Join us in honoring the voices of Black refugees and immigrants and showing the world the abundance that exists within immigrant communities:
