Dear John,

Yesterday, Congress held a vote on the impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. This was a politically motivated distraction to get people to forget that Republicans are refusing to pass legislation, offer resources or any real solutions to address the crisis at our border.

Not only are the claims against Sec. Mayorkas unfounded, they failed to identify an impeachable crime. Even other House Republicans agree that Sec. Mayorkas does not deserve to be impeached. 

The Biden Administration has asked for funding for our southern border and policy changes that would give authority to close the border when needed. Additionally, Sec. Mayorkas worked for months with a bipartisan group of Senators to reach a deal to secure our border — which is now  being rejected because Donald Trump doesn’t want the problem solved. 

Once again, Congressional Republicans are not serious about securing our border and have opted for yet another partisan charade, driven by political agendas rather than a  genuine concern for solving our nation’s problems. We cannot continue on this way. 

Instead of wasting time and resources on baseless impeachment efforts, we should be focusing on meaningful legislation that addresses border security and the ongoing immigration crisis.
