Today marks an important day for the climate movement — five years since the introduction of the Green New Deal.

I’m a proud cosponsor of this resolution alongside Sen. Ed Markey and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez because I believe that climate change poses a grave threat to California, to America, and to our entire planet.

And as we’ve seen with the severe weather and flooding across California this week, climate action can’t wait.

It’s time for another New Deal with the American people. A deal that tackles the climate crisis head-on and creates good-paying jobs in the process. It’s time for a Green New Deal.

Now don’t get me wrong, we’ve made a lot of progress in these last five years, including the largest investments EVER to fight climate change as part of the Inflation Reduction Act.


But in order to fully address climate change and build a clean energy future, we must do more. We must pass a Green New Deal.
