Friends, we need to talk about Congressional Republicans.
This week, Democrats and Republicans negotiated a bipartisan border deal — a compromise with concessions from both sides.
The bill isn’t perfect. But we made compromises because we were elected to Congress to take action on the issues that the American people care about — and the issues that impact our national security, including border security.
But now, thanks to pressure from Donald Trump, Republicans are backing out of their own deal. House Republicans even said this bipartisan compromise would be “dead on arrival” to them.
Just like in 2013 and just like in 2018, Republicans are refusing to consider solutions on issues they say they care about.
Why?
Because today’s GOP doesn’t care about governing. They’ve abdicated their solemn responsibility to serve.
I’m going to keep working as hard as I can to make progress in the Senate, but there is only one reasonable path forward from here — and that’s to deliver resounding victories for Democrats at the ballot box this November.
If you’re sick of Republican gridlock and ready to hold and expand our Democratic majority, please donate to my reelection campaign today. I’ve got nine Republican opponents vying to defeat me in November (more than any other incumbent Democratic Senator in the country), and Donald Trump himself has vowed to flip Virginia, so I need your support.
